December 28, 2010:
Hi! I can't believe 2010 is almost over. I have finally come to terms that I am now a hobbyist glass artist....in reality it has been years.
It is different not being drawn to create something every day. I am hoping 2011 will bring back the passion for me to create art.
I wish you all a very Happy New Year!!!
July 9, 2010:
Hi Fellow Floridians!! Chihuly's
Collection Carnivale of Glass is opening in St. Petersburg Florida this weekend. There are lots of opening activities...a lecture and booksigning with Dale Chihuly as well as premier tours July 10th and 11th. We went to the Hot Shop Open House last Saturday and the Morean Arts Center
is crazy wonderful!! I adore Ricky Bernstein's
Art...it is bright, colorful and very whimsical! You just grin the entire time you view Ricky's work. Also, Josh and Dave, of Zen Glass
, have two fantastic mixed media pieces in the gallery that are TDF!! Lastly, the Glassblowers are fabulous to watch and they interact with the audience and explain step by step what is going on. A treat for all ages!!
If you are in the area, you will definitely want to check it out!!
After we went to the Morean Arts Center, we walked down Central Avenue and stopped for some yummy cupcakes from the Cupcake Spot
. I had the scrumptious Tuxedo Bites and hubby had a S'more!! Both were uber fab! and hit the spot!!!
Hope all is well!!
Day 3: One week later: Turned the kiln on and torched for 4 hours. 7 beads are in the kiln. Anybody want a wonky bead??? More PPP is in order. Perhaps early tomorrow morning??
Day 2: More of day 1. Not happy that the glass will not do what I want. I guess I need to go back to basics and practice, practice, practice again.
Hi! Today I actually lit a torch and melted glass...so watch out...I actually may turn the kiln on and create some beads. The first steps to getting back into the swing of things. Of course, it is baby steps. I created two simple picture murrinis today which took 3 hours. Tomorrow the plan is to create two more simple picture murrinis and to start earlier. My studio gets really hot after a few hours.
I'll keep you updated on my Thursday adventures.
Hi fellow glass lovers! It has been a while since I have written and since I have shared new glass projects with ya'll. My new project is just going into the studio to melt glass. When one has taken a loooong sabbatical, it is difficult to just turn the torch on and begin. So after about two years and many days of sitting at my torch and staring at it, my goal for tomorrow is to light the torch and create something. Sneak Peek: I have a few sketches for simple picture murrinis to start with.
Here is the background on my inspiration for the moment: next year I will be teaching a new grade level in Science and now I need glass pendants to coordinate with the new curriculum. lol. My students this year adored the pendants that I wore to jumpstart each new unit. It is only fair that next year I adorn myself with corresponding glass art....don't you think?!
My goal is documented here...so now I will need to produce something. I will show you pictures once the kiln cools enough Thursday morning.
Hope all is well!!
