wk 12/18 Happy Holidays
Happy New Year!! Happy 2007!!
Hi! The clock keeps ticking down to midnight...and the new year. I love New Year's Eve. As a child, my sisters and I would spend it with my grandmother. Not only did we celebrate the New Year, we also celebrated my grandmother's birthday. We would prepare all day long for the big party. If you went by the food spread there should have been twenty people at the party each year...however, there was usually just the four of us. We would decorate the house with horns, hats, streamers, and balloons. And let's not forget the confetti to throw at midnight. Each of us had a special fluted glass for the midnight toast too.
This year for New Year's Eve a bunch of us are heading to the Desoto Super Speedway to watch the crazy and unusual races. They will have super 8 races, backward races, school bus races, a puc race, pulling a boat race, a demolition derby and a few more type races that I do not remember. At midnight they have fireworks and then they even serve breakfast to everyone. It is usually a blast.
Well, I better get going....hope you have a fun New Year's Eve.
Best wishes for a fantastic 2007!!
December 31, 2006
Hi! I was catching up on a friend and fellow flameworker’s blog today. I do not know if you have heard of JC Herrell? JC is one of the new-kids-on-the-block for 2006 in the glass bead world. I met JC a while back and became an instant fan. I actually saw a lot of my younger self in JC.
I wonder…would each of us experience the feeling of inadequacy when dropped into a room of more accomplished peeps? My answer is a resounding “yep”.
I have to admit my first three years attending the ISGB Gathering started about the same as JC’s AGI week. The year the Gathering was held in Lowell was a big rollercoaster for me. It was the second Gathering that I attended so I was no longer the new-kid-on-the-block and naïve. I recall telephoning my hubby every day and he talked me through a few “emotional” breakdowns.
On the second night, I missed the only group of people that I knew leaving for dinner and I tried to find them downtown…but never did. I went back to the hotel and fought back the tears. I remember getting on the elevator and slowly trying to gain control and wishing the entire time that the elevator would whisk me to my floor and to the safety of my own room. Of course, it had to stop.... and poor unsuspecting Schermo entered the elevator. There I was an inch away from hyperventilating, and Anne started chatting away about remembering me from last year and tried hard to draw me into a conversation but…unfortunately, all I could do was nod my head and be more embarrassed.
Thankfully my floor approached and I scurried off the elevator and down to my room.
The floodgates opened…and after a bit I called hubby. Just hearing his voice calmed me down and magically changed the day for me. He pushed me to go down to the hotel bar and grab a bite to eat there. I was so hesitant to do so but I did.
I grabbed a diet coke and ordered some food. As I was sitting there barely hanging on and ready to pull out my safety-net, a book to read, the woman next to me began a conversation. I do not think Cynthia realized how she effected my day. Cynthia’s friends, Coren Conti (a silversmith and flameworker from Arizona) and Brett Pierce (a scientific and art glassblower from NY), included me in their evening activities as well as various events during the rest of the Gathering.
These snapshot moments affect me when I participate in events like the Gathering. The first few days if I see someone by themselves…you know the ones…uncomfortable, unsure of what to do…I always try to go over and introduce myself and pull them into the thick of things so that they do not feel like an outsider looking in.
Well…I could go on and on with more examples from my history…heck…I will probably have more examples in my future…but let me stop here….and wish you a day filled with happiness.
Happy Holidays!! Happy Friday!!
Hi! It is Friday and everyone is probably running around purchasing those last minute gifts and celebrating the holidays with coworkers and friends. I have all our presents wrapped and ready to go. So that just leaves...celebrating! I will have to take my coworkers, dh and Pyro, out for a drink tonight to start off the holiday weekend perfectly. lol.
Yesterday I just could not help myself...I created a few more Holly Christmas Masks. They were so fun to make!!
Well..I better get running myself.
Best wishes for a fantasic holiday weekend!!
Hi! Just flying by to show off Miss Holly Christmas...
Please click on the picture above if you are interested in more information on Holly.
Gotta run...see you tomorrow!
Hi! Yesterday I had to torch...it was almost two weeks since the last time I melted glass. So I played with an idea that I had for a while...and created some cute Holly Masks. They are red, white, green, and black with a sprig of holly on their foreheads and glittery too...very cute and definitely Christmasy. Guess it is a little late for Christmas beads, right? lol. Oh, well...they will just go with me to Tucson. Anybody want to meet Holly??? I think I will clean them and take pictures and have Holly as a Thursday Sneak a Peek...how does that sound??
I'll be back later with more chitchat.
Hi! We are back from Mexico...what a fantastic week we had. It was our first vacation that did not include glass business in five years. We relaxed by the pool and explored Puerto Vallarta. Gorgeous!! I will have pictures later to show you all.
wk 12/10 Margarita
Hi! There are 4 new eBay auctions this week. Two masks and two awesome focals. One starts on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.
Things here have been soooo busy. I am hoping to catch up one of these days. I have a few new projects in the works...that once they are finalized, I will share with you.
Have a spectacular weekend!!
Wk 12/3/2006 Pyro's First Birthday
December 3, 2006
Hi! Happy First Birthday Pyro!!
Pyro knew something special was going on this weekend when the doorbell rang Friday and a flower birthday cake was delivered.
Thank you Grandma and Grandpa!! Woof! Woof!!
The big question I have is how do dogs know certain things are theirs?
Pyro definitely knew this cake was for her. When hubby came home she had to bark and run to the cake and back and forth until hubby checked it out and remarked on it. Too funny.
On Saturday, hubby and I went to the doggy bakery in Sarasota and picked up Pyro a real cake for her to eat.
On Pyro's big day, we planned all of her favorite activities...skating, swimming and eating!
Pyro's favorite boy, Scott and his father, came over to share in the eating of cake...of course, we had people cake...a yummy icecream cake. We even had a treat bag for our guest.
Here is a picture of Pyro having her first bite...she has never had frosting so this was definitely a big treat for her.
It did not take very long for Pyro to lunge at the cake and lick off a big bunch of frosting. Being good parents...and not wanting the coffee table attacked.... we finally allowed her to go at the whole cake.
Pyro enjoyed every bit of it and there was not a crumb left!!
Hi! Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving. May you eat lots of turkey and enjoy the day!!!
Have a spectacular weekend!!
** Kathy if you are reading this...the email address that you left in your note is not working. Please re-email me your email address. Thank you.
Hi! I am back again...here is a picture of my prototype for a new style of Amazing Technicolor Dream Masks...introducing Ms. Margarita:
Ms. Margarita is the life of the party!!
I better run and finish responding to emails.
Hi! Sneak a Peeksare updated for this week. There are five and each is listed at $13.69. Here is a pictue of one of the Sneak a Peeks.
I will have a new mask today too....
I'll be back later tonight with the mask...Margarita is having a hair rinse right now...more later.
Hi! I have been fighting a migraine on and off for days and days now and it is taking over tonight...yuk. Anyways, I have been on the torch here and there trying to get caught up with masks and orders. I have a new mask style in the kiln right now...I hope she comes out as great as she looked going in.
I better run...more later.
wk 11/05 Windows of My Soul
Hi! The Sneak a Peek at next week's auctions are listed...and as a special incentive they are all listed
at $13.69...HOT PRICE! Here is a glimpse of one of the focals:
I better run...more later.
Hi! Sorry I was not around yesterday...more medical tests, then ran Pyro to the vets, voted, etc.
I just finished ordering my holiday cards. For the first time, we are sending one of those picture greeting cards. It cracks me up. For years and years, I have been envious of friends and family sending me photocards of their children and now this year they are all receiving a Pyrogram!! hehe!! I think I am easily amused.
Here is a bead listed on eBay right now:
Speaking of Pyro...she is whining for attention...
I better run...more later.
Hi! The beginning of this week is throwing me off...I have medical appointments Monday and Tuesday. Today I had a CatScan...it has been a long, long time since my last one. No worries...it was just a baseline for my sinuses. Now, the cool thing is that I did not have to go to a hospital to have it done. There is a place that is only 10 minutes away that does all of the tests for all of the area physicians. They have all the fancy equipment...x-ray, mammogram, CatScan, MRI...so very stress free.
I better run...more later.
wk 10/29-- Halloween
Hi! I am taking a short break from the torch. I listed 12 new auctions on eBay this week. A new Mirror, Mirror rectangular puffy pillow set and focals galore.
Tomorrow we are going to check out Pet "resorts"...lol. Have a fantastic weekend.
Hello! It is before 8 pm and the Sneak a Peek at next week has been updated. I am off to clean a few masks and write some eBay auctions.
Hello! Happy November! Tomorrow I will be having Sneak a Peeks galore to kick off the new month! I have a bunch of beads for you all to see and a few new ones for the website and eBay. I have been kicking the idea around of doing JustBeads instead of eBay...does anyone check out the auctions there??
I created a few masks before my doctor's appointment today. They looked really cool in the torch...hope they look as awesome in the morning.
Well, Pyro is whining at the door for attention...I need to go play hide-n-seek for a bit. More tomorrow.
Hubby will be back today from his business trip. Hope he is home in time for the trick or treaters! We love to see the little ones in their cute costumes.
Tomorrow I have another doctor's appointment. Masks are on the torch docket for this week.
Hello! I had a great weekend in Fort Myers. Sales were good and I made some wonderful business connections for a few future projects. So all in all...a good bead show.
I started the Tucson Show bead creating schedule this weekend. I do a new one every year and just have such a hard time sticking to it. So, now the plan is in place. Let's see how long it takes before I am "behind" in the bead schedule.
No torching today...another ghastly migraine. :(
All of the jewelry orders and bead orders have been shipped. I am all caught up once again...yeah!!
wk 10/22-- Selby Gardens
Happy Birthday Barbara, JC, Gwen, and Jane! Hope your day is filled with happiness, laughter, and lots of cake!!!
I have all of my weekly and show errands finished. Almost all packed up...just going through my checklist to make sure I do not forget any essential items.
We finally went to Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota. The flowers were gorgeous and strolling through the gardens was very tranquil. Unfortunately, I left my camera at home! grrrrr! Some of the plants were very different and I really wanted some pics to use for creative inspiration. No worries though....we will just have to go back and visit again real soon. We spent a lot of time watching this group of fish jump out of the water. The kept flying through the air...and as soon as you thought they swam away they would start the flying competition over again.
Well, I best get back to packing up for the beadshow. Hope everyone has an awesome weekend!!
Hello! I have New Sneak a Peeks listed tonight. I had a great focal week on the torch. I created masks, eyebeads, skulls, aliens, and long, long tube focals. There are three focals and two minisets this week:
This weekend I have a bead show. I had no idea that my office was getting filled to the brim with beads. So, if you are in Fort Myers this week...please stop by and say hello. The Down the Street Bead Show is at the Clarion Hotel...right next to Sam Seltzer's Restaurant.
Hi! I have been creating focals this week and working on a new bead series that I am pretty excited about. I needed another series that is fun to create and once it is fine-tuned I will show you a picture. Today is going to be a torch, torch, torch day. I have masks that need to be made and I want to work with my new series today too.
Here is a focal that is on eBay this week and ending tomorrow.
Well...I better run and get to work.
Hi everyone!! Finally I am back!! I even torched for a few hours tonight...made some murrinis for decorating a few masks later this week. Took stock of glass...almost out of black...eeeek! How does that happen?? and refreshed my memory on where I was with a few murrini projects...I am in the middle of four right now.
A few weeks ago, I agreed to do a bead show in Fort Myers...so this upcoming weekend, Saturday and Sunday, I will be selling my beads with the Down the Street Bead Show.
On Friday, a friend of mine came over for her first lampwork class. It has been a while since I taught a beginner. It was a lot of fun! and hopefully she will come back and create more beads. Her last bead was really cool...it was a tube bead and had some neat gravity effects.
October 13, 2006
Hi! Phew...it is 1:30 am and finally the Sneak a Peek selections are up. I added a bonus one that is more like a steal of the day. Anyway, I am bushed so off to bed for me. I have some awesome new focals for eBay later this week too.
I had to show you this picture...these beads are so reflective that you can actually see me in the bead....lol.
October 12, 2006
Hi! I am running so far behind....so Sneak a Peek will be up late, late tonight. Hubby's mother is arriving tonight and I am up to my ears in dusting and getting the house ready. We have to pick her up from the airport too. Probably around 11ish. Sorry!!
October 9, 2006
Hi! How was your weekend? Ours was great. We worked on some house projects since hubby's mom will be visiting this week. I created some jewelry this weekend too. And, I was able to squeeze in a few hours of torching. I have some beauties for next week's auctions. I do not know if I will be able to part with some of them.
Well, I only have 1 set in the kiln so far today so I better get to work.
